Taking a Temperature Measurement

Preparation

  1. Rest indoors for 10-15 minutes before measuring.
  2. Ensure the underarm area is clean and completely dry. Sweat or moisture may affect readings.
  3. Remove bulky clothing from the measurement area.
  4. Ensure the room is free of drafts, direct sunlight, and heating or air conditioning airflow directed at the person being measured.

Placement: Without the Elastic Strap:

  1. Open the Baby FM app and confirm the thermometer status shows "Connected".
  2. Lift the arm.
  3. Place the thermometer sensor tip high in the centre of the armpit, ensuring full skin contact with the flat sensor side.
  4. Lower the arm and press it snugly against the torso.
  5. Hold the arm firmly in place during the measurement. Minimise movement.

Placement: With the Elastic Strap:

  1. Thread the thermometer into the strap holder.
  2. Wrap the strap around the chest, positioning the thermometer sensor under the armpit.
  3. Adjust for a snug but comfortable fit – tight enough to maintain full skin contact, but not so tight as to restrict breathing or cause discomfort.
  4. The strap is designed for prolonged wear, including during sleep.

Reading the Temperature

  1. Watch the live temperature display in the Baby FM app.
  2. Allow 30-90 seconds after initial placement for the reading to stabilise.
  3. The temperature will rise and then level off at a plateau – this stable value is your temperature.
  4. If you reposition the device, allow an additional 30-60 seconds for the value to re-stabilise.
  5. The measurement is automatically recorded and saved to your history with a timestamp.

Tips for Accurate Results

  • Always use the same armpit for consistent comparison over time.
  • Keep the arm firmly closed throughout the reading.
  • Avoid talking or moving the torso during measurement.
  • Ensure the sensor is not touching clothing – only bare skin.
  • For infants and children, gently hold the arm in place or measure while the child is calm or asleep.
  • Do not measure immediately after physical activity, eating, drinking, or bathing.

Continuous (Overnight) Monitoring

  1. Attach the thermometer using the elastic strap.
  2. Open the Baby FM app and confirm the connection.
  3. Set your fever alert threshold (see Section 7.3).
  4. Place your phone within Bluetooth range (1-2 meters).
  5. The device will record continuously throughout the night.
  6. If the temperature exceeds your alert threshold, the app will send a push notification.

Note: If the Bluetooth connection is temporarily lost (e.g., phone moves out of range), the thermometer stores measurements in onboard memory (up to 53 hours) and synchronises automatically when the connection is restored.
